Piping Today Magazine arrived in the post this week with the cover and feature story photographs by Ryan MacDonald. Contacted shortly after James P. Troy won the Silver Medal, the magazine asked Ryan to photograph him for their October/November issue.
James and Lisa Laughlin have compiled stories from World Champion Pipers, Drummers, and Drum Majors into a 200 page limited edition hardcover book. They sent Ryan a list of story contributors for Our Journey asking if she had any related photos. As it turns out, she has quite the collection of photographs from over the years which were featured throughout the book, along with photos from 11 other contributing photographers. The book was an ambitious undertaking for the Laughlin’s, and the stories told by each World Champion are truly inspirational.

On July 7th three of ATRIA’s photographers were part of an afternoon showcase of photography in Victoria hosted by Duane Prentice and his wife Silvia. Each participating photographer was asked to pick one photograph from within the last year that was inspiring or of particular importance to them.
“Les Rencontres d’Arles is a fantastic annual photo-fest held annually in Provence in the south of France and showcases great photography. Held at the same time is Off Arles, a group of photographers and galleries who for various reasons don’t participate in the main Arles event. And I felt it was time to celebrate our own work and share with photographers and lovers of photography an afternoon of seeing our work in a relaxed informal setting in a quiet garden with drinks, food and great people.” -Duane Prentice
It was a beautiful sunny afternoon with prints hung throughout the garden until the sun went down. We enjoyed catching up with old friends and meeting new photographers all while enjoying cold sangria! We look forward to this event happening again!
Bellow are the three prints from Jenna, Tristan and Ryan followed by a list of the photographers who participated.

“After sorting through my photos for a very long time, I realized that my favourite images were all taken on my hardest and longest days on the trail. The days that I was suffering from mental and physical exhaustion, feeling completely defeated, these were the moments that I took out my camera and captured my best images.” -Excerpt from kaletrail.com
In March Ben Benvie was interviewed about his successful thru-hike of The Appalachian Trail on Kale Trail. Throughout the interview he discusses how he photographed the entire trail, the gear he used and how he continuously combines photography and hiking.
“Documentary feature about Kathryn Calder of The New Pornographers. Driven by adversity, inspired by family.” -Yellow Bird Project
Last year Jenna was approached by Kathryn Calder and the Yellow Bird Project to photograph behind the scenes of a new documentary called A Matter Of Time. The first shoot happened while footage was being filmed and music recorded in Victoria BC at the Alix Goolden Hall. A few months later both Tristan and Jenna photographed a special private concert Kathryn put on inside the BC Royal Museum that was also filmed for the documentary project.
We just saw the trailer for the documentary and it looks incredible. The talent of everyone involved and the openness of Kathryn, her family and friends for this project is so moving. The documentary team is now looking for funding to complete the final stages and we hope you consider supporting it through a donation to their Kickstarter campaign. For all the details on the content of the documentary and info on how you can help, head over to the Kickstarter page below!
